I have four characters whose names are references to characters from other sources: Agrias Oakheart - Norn Guardian - Reference to Agrias Oaks from Final Fantasy Tactics Prinny Boss Etna - Asura Necromancer - Reference to Etna from the Disgaea series. Shakon - Asura Ranger - Reference to the archer einherjar Sha-Kon from Valkyrie Profile 2.
If you have a free slot anyways, you can go to character creation, immediately skip to end, and try potential names just as you would do in your friend list. Once you find a name that isn't taken, delete the character and go and actually create the new one. Names of deleted character are reserved for your account for 24h.

Yes I know the 24h-window makes the trade a bit long, but if seller and buyer choose the timing the character gets deleted, knowing the seller can log in 24h later you can do it quite exact. If the seller then tries to get the name 2 minutes later just incase the buyer got DC whatever/forgot it, theres no loss. I find it weird that so many people seem to put no consideration into their character names. I haven't played WOW in 2-3 years but I could list all my characters names. I haven't played Rift or SWTOR in a few years, but I can still list the character names. I planned their names and gave them minor head cannon. Their names were important to me.
This means a character's birthday will "drift" backwards by one day every four years. Birthday gifts are distributed at the time of day the character was created, not the daily reset time. Trivia .
